Things You Need to Know as a Member of the Southwestern Ohio Symphonic Band
- Rehearsals - We rehearse at 7:15 PM every Thursday at Lakota East Freshman School from October through April, excluding holidays.
- Concerts - The band typically plays 3 concerts a year in December, March, and late April or May at Finkelman Auditorium on the campus of Miami University Middletown. We often also play at least one summer concert outside. Occasionally, we play a joint concert with another musical group.
- Concert Dress - Concert dress for men is a black suit, white shirt, and either a black tie or, for the holiday concert, a holiday tie. Tuxes are also ok. Concert dress for ladies is all black.
- Fees - The Southwestern Ohio Symphonic Band is a self-supporting community band. While we receive donations from patrons and sponsors, we rely on membership fees from the band members to pay for operating expenses, from purchasing music to purchasing insurance for the use of Lakota's percussion equipment. Member fees are $40 a season and are collected when you join or at the beginning of each season in September, whichever comes first. Please note: We regret that we are unable to prorate fees if you join mid-season or miss a concert. Please remit your fees by filling out this form and turning it in along with check or cash to our treasurer, Dave VanAs, or by mailing the form and a check payable to Southwestern Ohio Symphonic Band to:
